Where is Freedom?

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Cor.3:17

As born-again believers we all have the Spirit of the Lord…in our spirits Notice it says “WHERE” the Spirit of the Lord is. This verse is not saying that we automatically have liberty in every area of our lives. We can see that is not the case…

This verse is saying that whatever areas of our lives we yield to the Lordship of the Spirit of God, we have freedom! Freedom comes from complete surrender! We need to recognize that any areas we lack freedom in means that we have not surrendered that area to the Lord, we are still holding on to our ambitions in that area…(preaching to myself here too!)

We haven’t had complete freedom manifest in our lives yet but, as we continue to allow the Holy Spirit to cleanse our lives from unrighteousness, we receive more freedom! Our entire beings are meant to walk in freedom. Not just spirit but soul and body, so that we would be a completely spotless living sacrifice when our Savior returns for us! (1 Thess.5:23)

Continue on to 1 Thess.5:24 which says: “Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass!”

As a personal testimony to this: I lived in bondage to pornography and lust for the first 20-some years of my life. I hated it and despised myself but, was bound. As an unbeliever, I failed to set myself free and eventually; I even fell back into bondage as a born-again believer…even, after I was married.

It was only after, confessing my sin to another believer that I received deliverance from the oppressive spirit. Confession brings freedom because God gives more grace to the humble!

I yielded to the Lordship of Jesus in the area of lust and was immediately set free from lust. That was over 3 years ago today and only by the grace of God, have I walked in a purity of body and mind that I never knew was possible.

The Spirit of the Lord gives liberty WHERE we yield to Him. This is truth that sets us free.
