The 7-fold Holy Spirit

slide-1-638

The Book of Revelation is filled with previously unknown truth and knowledge of God. There is so much mystery in that book that I still don’t understand but, I believe the Holy Spirit is clearly represented in Rev. 4:5- “From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God…”

I believe it is important to recognize that this does not represent 7 different Spirit’s but, 1 Holy Spirit in 7 different facets. This is a basic version of the study that I prayerfully sought the Lord about for a year and how I finally came to the same conclusion that most Evangelical and Charismatic Bible scholars teach.

Rev.5:5-6 says: “And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.”

We see the Lamb that was slain, having 7 horns and 7 eyes, which are the 7 Spirit’s of God. The reason I believe we can clearly identify these as 1 Holy Spirit is because of the link in Rev.5:5 to some O.T. prophecies about Messiah, Jesus. This may get a little tricky but, here goes:

Isaiah 11:1,2- “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

This passage identifies Messiah as the Stump of Jesse (David) and the branch from the Root. This must be a clear link to Rev.5 “Root of David”. If this sounds confusing because it is hard to tell who is the branch from the root of the stump, take consolation that Jesus says “I am the root and the descendant of David.” in Rev.22:16.

He is both the Son of David and Lord of David, if you remember the Old Testament “riddle” that Jesus used to stump the religious leaders in Matt.22:44. He is both the Root of David, and the Branch. Not convinced? Let’s go to Zechariah 3:8,9 for some more tricky prophecy about Jesus the Messiah (which means Christ) :

I will bring my servant the Branch. 9For behold, on the stone that I have set before Joshua, on a single stone with seven eyes, I will engrave its inscription, declares the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day.

Messiah is the servant, the Branch, Jesus and is also Joshua in this prophetic vision (Jesus is the Greek form of the Hebrew word that is translated Joshua and is the same word.- http://biblehub.com/greek/2424.htm-) and the single stone also appears to be Jesus with the 7 eyes (or facets) being the same 7-fold anointing described in Isaiah 11 and the same 7 spirits of God described in Revelation.

It’s always about Jesus. He’s the beginning and the end.

So according to Isaiah 11- The 7-fold Spirit of God is: The Spirit of the Lord (YHWH), The Spirit of Might, The Spirit of Counsel, The Spirit of Wisdom, The Spirit of Understanding, The Spirit of Fear of the Lord (YHWH)  and the Spirit of knowledge (of the Lord,YHWH); which is Holy Spirit.

7“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you…13“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth..14“He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15“All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.” ~ Words of Jesus From John 16
