Having Hearing Ears and Seeing Eyes

spiritual eyes

Luke 8:18 “Therefore take heed how you hear (by what manner you perceive) For whoever has, to him more will be given and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.”

We must consider and be cautiously aware of how we perceive! Jesus was answering the Disciples when the asked the meaning of the parable of the sower. He told them “to YOU it has been given to know the mysteries of the (reign of God) To the multitudes, it was not given.

The Disciples were the ones who had. They had the right to know the mysteries of God, they were supposed to be using Spiritual perception, what the Jesus often called “eyes to see and ears to hear.” 1 Cor. 2 speaks a lot about this. Who can perceive spiritual truths but the Spirit of God and the one who is lead by the Spirit of God? Jesus only did what He saw the Father doing and he spoke once to each of the 7 churches in Revelation: “Let him who has ears, hear what the Spirit is saying to the Churches.”

It is not enough to have the Spirit of God, unless you desire only to know that your sins are forgiven. Are you lead by the Spirit of God? (Rom.8:14) How can you claim to follow the Spirit if you do not know that you have eyes to see, ears to hear what the Spirit is saying?

Do you perceive spiritual truths by the Spirit of God? Does the Spirit bear witness with your spirit, crying Daddy, Father…confirming that you are a mature son of God? I believe the Bible is very clear that is the actual meaning of the text in Romans 8. It doesn’t matter, if you literally call on the name of Abba, or Daddy (which is what Abba means) but, that the Holy Spirit is testifying with your spirit that you are a mature son of God. Not just a babe or a child. Reckon yourself dead to sin! Your sins have been forgiven, you are dead to the power of sin, alive by the power of Christ living in you, it is no longer you living but, Christ living in you and the life you live in the body, you live by faith in the Son of God, who loves you and gave Himself for you! (Galatians 2:20)

When these things are more than just proper doctrine but, are so grounded in your hear that you know without a shadow of a doubt that every word of it is true, not because “The Bible says it and I believe it” but, because the Spirit of God bears witness to it…you have spiritual eyes and ears! It is good to begin with believing because the Bible says it but, to move on to maturity, you need the Spirit to bear witness with your spirit!

If these things sound good and sound true but, you think maybe are taken out of context and are not quite sure that is exactly the Bible literally says or perhaps the version that I quoted is wrong, than “be careful how you hear…for whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them!”

A person who “does not have” is lacking spiritual perception and what they “think they have” is the Word of God (The seed). If a person does not have spiritual perception, the Word of God, the seed will be taken from them. This does not mean that someone is going to confiscate your Bible. (pray to God that, whatever else happens in this country, you hold on to a copy of the Bible) But, the live seed will be taken away. God brings the increase. If a person thinks they have the Spirit of God bringing increase to the Word of God but, they are depending on their understanding and not acknowledging Him, He will not direct their paths. He will not “water the seed” and bring the increase. He will take even that away from them...why? Because they did not become lovers of the truth! He will give them over to strong delusion because judgement begins in the house of God.

A person cannot depend on their own understanding…not in the “old” or “New” covenant! The spiritual man must always depend on God in all their ways for God to direct all their paths! God doesn’t exhort us to depend on him for some things, so that he will guide some of our paths…God is not interested in half-hearted followers. (Remember the parable of the rich young ruler!) Rich rulers who are willing to keep all of the outward commandments but not willing to listen and hear God’s voice when He calls them to make a huge sacrifice and humbly, willingly follow Him in faith but, have hardened their hearts will not enter the Kingdom of God!

I don’t believe He is talking about being born again here. The rich ruler didn’t ask how to be born again. He basically asked how to enter the Kingdom of God! If you think that you have been guaranteed access to the Kingdom of God, the moment that you were born again, you better search the Scriptures! “Unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and Pharisees you cannot enter the Kingdom of God”

Did I take that out of context? Search the Scriptures! You think that in them you have “eternal life” and the Scriptures point to Jesus!

The complete promise of “Eternal life” is not obtained in a moment of faith. It is obtained in a life of faith.

The righteous will live by faith but my soul takes no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.

Paul talked about how he had not already obtained maturity but runs he race with endurance, looking to the author and finisher of His faith (notice their is an emphasis on Jesus finishing what He started in you) so that he might somehow obtain to the resurrection of the dead…not as if he had already obtained it!
Beware because apart from holiness , no person will see God. Jesus encouraged the Church of Philadelphia in Revelation for a few things and one of them was that they “did not deny His name” and held fast to His Word…the Word of patient endurance.” His Word is not a Word of “falling away” and still entering the Kingdom of God. By very definition of the reign of God, when someone is not under God’s reign, they are not a part of the Kingdom of God. That is a form of godliness, denying the power…but the Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power! Romans 14:17 says “The reign of God is righteousness…”There is more to that verse but, I want to cut that verse a little short and re-emphasize that point.

“The Kingdom of God is righteousness”

and it continues…”the kingdom of God is righteousness, joy and peace in the Holy Spirit.”

Not to forget about the joy and peace in the Holy Spirit. May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in Him that you will overflow with hope by the power of His Holy Spirit. BUT, to emphasize the often neglected emphasis on righteousness in the Holy Spirit!

Seek first the Kingdom of God AND His righteousness!

This is not a message of condemnation…it is a message of repentance to return to you first love, for whom you have been called and chosen to be holy and blameless, without any spot, wrinkle or blemish.

You cannot!

The one who has called you is able to complete (perfect) that which he started!

Rich ruler…don’t hang your head in shame and turn away because your wealth is great!

Father, I ask that you will move by your Holy Spirit now, to convict of sin, righteousness and judgement. Draw us to repentance by your kindness.

Take your eyes off the waves of false doctrine, He has given you His Spirit so that you would not be deceived!

Father, I ask you to move by your Holy Spirit, even the Spirit of truth and guide us into all truth. We want to truly be your disciples and obey your commandments , we want to love you with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength and love our neighbors as ourselves and we have not. Forgive us Father for sinning against you and for grieving your Spirit. Forgive us if we have trampled on the blood of Jesus, have mercy on us, and wash us clean again in the blood of Jesus. Sanctify us in your truth. Thank you that although all of this is impossible with man, with YOU ALL things are possible…we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us!

No works are of ourselves but it is your grace working in us.

Jesus is not condemning you today. He is calling you out into the deep waters. Deep cries out to deep! He is calling you to take your eyes off of the world, earthly things and the raging waves that will continue to increase around you and to turn your eyes solely on Him! He will hold you in His arms and speak softly to you, comforting you, if you will not harden your heart. He will guide you safely into His Secret place, the shelter of the Most High, where you will find rest for your souls. The promises of Psalm 91 will be yours, if you will cast all your cares on him, because He cares so much for you.

This is not a message of condemnation but of reconciliation! Father, I ask you to let your Holy Spirit comfort us as you set us free from condemnation and reveal the truth to us! Thank you that your Holy Spirit builds up and does not tear down…be encouraged if you are convicted of sin, righteousness or judgement! He is drawing you to repentance by His kindness! Renounce any condemnation and submit it to God in the name of Jesus, it is of the enemy !

Receive His forgiveness and mercy because of the blood of Jesus, confess it with your mouth and believe it with your heart to be further delivered from any lies of the enemy. Jesus came to save His people from their sins! You were saved to be free from not just the penalty of sin (although that would be glorious enough) but you were saved for freedom! You were saved to be set free from condemnation and the power of sin! Renounce the sin that has so easily beset you in the name of Jesus! Leave it at the foot of the cross, confess that it has been crucified with Christ, it has no place in you and ask for the Father to give you a hunger and thirst for righteousness and believe that you will be filled!

Ask the Father yo give you a love of the truth, that you will truly obey Jesus commandments and that you will fully know the truth and be set completely free! Ask for the Father to fill you with the fullness of His Spirit and to guide you into all truth because He has promised and we know that the one who has promised is faithful! He is able to do infinitely more than you can ask, think or imagine by His power working in you, for His glory!
