These are perilous times; like no generation has ever seen. The stage is being set for an attempt to destroy Israel with WMD’s, America has almost no border control from ISIS, marriage is being redefined, the dollar corrupted, much of the church is compromised, etc…
Darkness covers the land and great darkness covers his people. (Isaiah 60:2) But the last half of that verse says ~ “But the LORD will rise upon you And His glory will appear upon you.”
Where sin abounds, grace OVER-abounds!
Grace is not a license to sin. It’s not compromise overlooked.
Grace is the power of God to overcome! The prophecy of Revelation is very much about the over-comers! The “church of Philadelphia” doesn’t compromise. I encourage you to research this church and ask the Lord to show you how to live like the overcomer! This represents the only group of believers that is told “Because you have not denied my name and kept my word, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on all who dwell on the earth“
Jesus warned about the destruction that was to come in a few places and Matt.24 is the most popular but the Bible is like a puzzle and every piece is needed to complete the picture. Obviously, I don’t have it all figured out but check out Luke 21:34-36 ~”But take heed to yourselves, lest your souls be weighed down with self-indulgence and drunkenness or the anxieties of this life, and that day come upon you, suddenly, like a falling trap; For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth, but watch ye at every season, making earnest prayer, that ye may prevail to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man”
Let’s face it. We live in an age of self-indulgence. Even as a Christian; I was self-indulgent for years. Our soul (which includes our mind) can easily be anxious about the cares of this life! Honesty, that’s why I moved to the country and bought cattle, dairy goat, etc…because I was motivated by the cares of this life. “What will we eat? what will we drink…”
But Jesus said that carrying our cross would give us rest for our souls! (Matt.11:29
Jesus didn’t tell us to pray for food and drink, etc…He told us that Father already knows that we have need of these things and we are told many times to have no concern for these things because that’s what the heathens focused on! Seek the Kingdom and His righteousness primarily and all these things will be added to you!
Back to Luke 21 from above…He told us to watch (we are) and earnestly pray (let’s keep doing that) but he specifically said to pray that we might prevail to escape the destruction that is coming! I haven’t been doing that… but, that I am now!
One more passage in Luke…Chapter 17 ~ “but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from the sky, and destroyed them all. 30It will be the same way in the day that the Son of Man is revealed. 31In that day, he who will be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away. Let him who is in the field likewise not turn back. 32Remember Lot’s wife! 33Whoever seeks to save his life loses it, but whoever loses his life preserves it. 34I tell you, in that night there will be two people in one bed. The one will be taken, and the other will be left. 35There will be two grinding grain together. One will be taken, and the other will be left.”
Amidst the warning of the destructions Jesus said something very profound that He stated many many times. “Whoever seeks to save his life loses it, but whoever loses his life preserves it.”
The word that Jesus used for “life” is literally soul. Every time Jesus said something like “deny your self” or “take up your cross” or “whoever will lose their life for my sake…” He referenced our soul. He was never talking about denying our souls to be born-again and save our own soul. That’s rejecting being-born again by grace through faith and not of works.
He was always talking about sanctification, “obtaining the crown of life“, “running the race with patient endurance” or “growing up into maturity”..dying to our self daily. This is our call to follow the Lamb to the cross.
Our soul contains our mind, will and emotions. I used to idolize my mind for years and have now been unlearning “leaning on my own understanding” because that is how I must “forsake my soul to preserve it.” We all have different aspects of our soul that we naturally lean towards. Some are more emotional than intellectual but our will is the main thing that drives our soulish nature!
When I tried to prepare for the coming destruction because of fear and not in faith…I was following my soul and not the Spirit of God. It’s “sowing to the flesh” that Paul wrote about in Gal.6 and Rom.8.
It’s the “way that seems right to a man but ends in death” (failure).
Because Paul wrote in Romans that whatever is not of faith is sin!
If we try to preserve our lives in this world, we will lose it. It’s foolishness to the world but it is the wisdom of God, which is perfect and His way is too simply “seek His Kingdom…His righteousness.” Forsake the world (and it’s cares) for his sake and endure the cross that He has given you and He will keep you from the hour of trial that is to come upon all who dwell on the face of the earth.
He really does expect us to take no concern for tomorrow but seek Him. He is our daily bread. He does provide for all of our needs according to His riches in grace because His miraculous power is completed in our human weakness! Much of the church has become distracted by the wisdom of the world and forsaken the simple child-like faith that Jesus commends us to have and walk by…the righteous (continue) to live by faith.
This is the place of the shelter of the Most High in Psalm 91 and God is just as powerful today as He was in the wilderness for the Israelites…He is the only one who will not change!
We started this race in faith by Spirit. Let’s finish in faith by the Spirit! The darkness of the world is increasing but, we are his light that will shine bright in the darkness and it’s our faith in HIM that is the victory that overcomes the world!
2 promises from Daniel about the last days…
“The people that know (really intimately know and trust) their God shall be strong and do great exploits.” and “And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.” (Dan.11:32 and Dan.12:3)
The wisdom of God in this hour is needed to know our righteousness in Christ alone and walk by faith. The author and finisher of our faith is more than able to complete the work that He has started but, we need to yield completely to him and make him more than the first love of our life. He is the first and the last.
He is worthy of it all.
