Jesus rebuked Peter when he tried to stop the Lord from going to the cross ~ “For your mind is not set on the things of God.” (Matt.16 & Mark 8)
Maybe this is not new to you but, it is to me. “Having your mind set” is not merely about the thoughts in our brain. HELPS Word Studies states that it is rooted in a Greek word that has to do with the parts around the heart. Thayers Lexicon says it “essentially equates to personal opinion fleshing itself out in action. ” This idea is difficult to translate into English because it combines the visceral and cognitive aspects of thinking.
I think of it as a worldview. It’s our attitude and how we operate in light of our perspective.
If Christ is seated at the right hand of God above all and our real life is hidden with Christ in God…guess where your true self is? That’s our spirit seated with him where we have been given every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm/spirit! (Eph.1:3)
The reason we don’t experience God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven, as God intends; is because we have not set our minds/ worldview on the things of God as Jesus did!
But, we are still growing in grace with God, understanding and wisdom from above!
Remember that Jesus told us to “store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matt.6:20,21)
No one can take away spiritual blessings and they never fade. What we value is where our heart/worldview will be set.
When we value the spiritual treasures more than anything this world has to offer; our true life and all of it’s spiritual blessings begins to manifest in this world!
Back to Col 3:4~ “When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.”
If we “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you”
and “seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator
(conformed to the image of Christ) then “Christ is all, and in all.” (Col.3:5,9,10,11b)
Because God is light and in him is no darkness! When we are conformed to His image; darkness has no place in us!
It all starts with where we focus our worldview. If we continue to behold darkness (even if it’s only shades of gray) then our mindset is filled with darkness but, if we gaze into his light; we see light, are filled with light and manifest HIS light!
