What Do We Seek?

Let’s face it. The world is a busy place full of distractions. We have more opportunity and more potential to “seek” vanities than any generation before us.

Consider the potential at yours and mine fingertips right now…or, maybe you shouldn’t. There are definitely more interesting things that you could be indulging your eyes with right now but, did you know that the Bible says “The ear is not satisfied with hearing and the eye is not satisfied with seeing?” Solomon wrote in that same verse that “All things are wearisome…”

The point is that the cares of this world are deceptive and vain. They all add up to a big fat nothing in the end.

Not only are they deceptive in a way that they can cause us to outright sin but in a way that we could allow them to distract us from the one thing that matters more than anything else in the universe…Our personal walk with the Lord.

It’s mostly about the “Secret Place”. What are we doing with our private time? When the kids are asleep (or distracted), when nobody else is around. We don’t have to be indulging in something evil like “sex, drugs and rock & roll” to be falling short of God’s glory. There is more to falling short than what we normally think of as sin.

Simply neglecting the things that the Lord told us to seek can be just as detrimental to our lives as blatant sin! Jesus didn’t give us the same Spirit that He had (Rom.8:9-11) simply so we could live with him in eternity. That’s the guaranteed end that we receive freely but, He wants to continually transform our lives NOW and there’s some pretty awesome promises given to those who seek!

So, I am going to throw out a few verses about things to seek and the promises that go with it for consideration. Ponder these things in your heart or especially aloud to the Lord in prayer…I will be.

seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”. (Matt.6:33)

“He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.” (Prov.21:21)

“to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life” (Romans 2:7)

“keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth…” (Col.3:1,2)

In Proverbs 8; “Wisdom” is “speaking” ~

“I love those who love me, and those who seek me will find me. Wealth and honor accompany me, as do enduring wealth and righteousness.” (8:17,18) and again in 8:35 “because those who find me (wisdom) find life and gain favor from the LORD.”

Do we daily ask the Lord for wisdom? Not just worldly wisdom; which Paul said is foolishness to God or human wisdom; which James said is even demonic! Do we daily seek God’s wisdom? Paul called it “Spiritual Wisdom or The Spirit of Wisdom” and James 3:15 it’s called “Wisdom from Above”.

The Lord knows our hearts and if we are asking only for wisdom in worldly things…well; maybe we won’t have much spiritual wisdom because “You do not have because you do not ask. 3You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.” (James 4:2,3)

But, he also guaranteed that we would receive “wisdom from above” when we ask in complete faith in James 1:5-7~ “if any lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts…ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord”

Because the key to “The Faith Chapter” in Hebrews 11 is verse 6 ~ “Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.”

Jesus summed it up this way ~ “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. 8For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.” ~ (Matt.7:7,8)

What are you seeking? You will find it…

  1. Thank you for a great blog Christopher! You are blessed to be a blessing 🙂

I didn’t know I was seeking God and he found me anyway, right on my couch! I just wanted the pain in my heart to stop, and what I got is way more than I could ever express in words: I found His Life in me!!!!!!!!

  2. Thank you and the Lord bless you! I thought you would like to know that I have just started “Welton Academy” online because of “Raptureless” and am very interested in the idea that these prophecies have already been fulfilled. I also bought David Chilton’s “Days of Vengeance” which is a 700 page verse-by-verse documentary on the Book of Revelation having been almost completely fulfilled in 70 AD.

This morning; I was rocked by similarities in Isaiah 54 and 2 Peter 3 and never noticed the “In the Days of Noah” reference linked to “New Jerusalem” being established on earth before…The Lord is so deep and I love getting lost in His Words for hours; with my head spinning, mouth confessing complete dependence on His Spirit to teach me and coming out with a nugget of gold never before seen! He is so good and so much fun!
