“1For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch.”…11Behold, the LORD has proclaimed
to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, “Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.”12And they shall be called The Holy People, The Redeemed of the LORD; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.” (Isaiah 62)
Isaiah prophesied the coming of the King to marry his bride; the church which is Zion or New Jerusalem! Our salvation has come, we are righteous and we are the Holy people that have been redeemed by the Lord! He has sought us out and He will never leave us or forsake us!
Galatians 4 ~ “22For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman. 23But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh (LAW), while the son of the free woman was born through promise (GRACE). 24Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar (OLD). 25Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia;e she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. 26But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother (Sarah/NEW).**** 27For it is written,“Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband.” ****more on this verse below****
The Old Covenant which was given by Moses at Mt. Sinai is far inferior to our NEW Covenant of grace which is Mt. Zion, New Jerusalem! Do you remember a time that Jesus articulated the New Covenant from Mt. Zion? It’s not the “Sermon on the Mount” which as given at the Mount of Olives. The New Covenant is not listed like 10 simple steps written on stone (but I believe Jesus described it in John 14-17) However, it hadn’t even arrived fully because the O.C. was still in the process of passing away according to Hebrews 8:13 ~ “
13In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.”
Hebrews was written in the mid to late 60’s AD and the Old Covenant was still in place because the Old system was still standing! (Heb.9:8,9) but, it all came down in 70 AD and can never be rebuilt according to the standards of the OLD LAW because the Jewish genealogy and Priestly records were all destroyed in the fiery furnace that used to be God’s Holy Temple! But, it had to happen for the New Covenant and the New Priesthood of Jesus to be fully ushered in! (Heb.9:8-10) and Heb.7:12 ~
12For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well.”
We have already come to New Jerusalem, Mt. Zion (in the Spirit) according to Heb.12 ~ “22But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.“
What about that weird verse, Gal.4:27 ? ~1“Sing, O barren one, who did not bear; break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who have not been in labor!For the children of the desolate one will be more than the children of her who is married,” says the LORD.”
Maybe you noticed that “version” was slightly different than the original listed above. That’s because Paul was once again quoting O.T. prophecy from Isaiah 54:1. These last chapters of Isaiah are widely considered “Kingdom Chapters” and the promises in them are too often considered to be for the distant future. But, the Apostles didn’t do that! He described how Old Covenant Israel/Hagar was “married” to the Lord but, now the previously barren wife “Sarah/New Covenant” is giving birth too.Consider how he finishes describing in the next verses of Gal.4 ~
“28Now you,f brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now. 30But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.” 31So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.”
Jesus didn’t randomly pick a new idea when he told Nicodemus “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” and He certainly didn’t tell him to be born-again so we could all passively wait to go to Heaven someday! Jesus was declaring to this well-educated Old Covenant Jew how Isaiah and other prophet’s promises would come to pass for them!
7“Before she was in labor
she gave birth;
before her pain came upon her
she delivered a son.
8Who has heard such a thing?
Who has seen such things?
Shall a land be born in one day?
Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment?
For as soon as Zion was in labor
she brought forth her children.
9Shall I bring to the point of birth and not cause to bring forth?”
says the LORD;
“shall I, who cause to bring forth, shut the womb?”
says your God.
10“Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her,
all you who love her;
rejoice with her in joy,
all you who mourn over her;
11that you may nurse and be satisfied
from her consoling breast;
that you may drink deeply with delight
from her glorious abundance.”a
12For thus says the LORD:
“Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream;
and you shall nurse, you shall be carried upon her hip,
and bounced upon her knees.
13As one whom his mother comforts,
so I will comfort you;
you shall be comforted in Jerusalem. ~ Isaiah 66:7-14
The New Covenant/Zion/New Jerusalem gives birth (she is our mother) without labor pains because we freely receive the abundance of grace and free gift of righteousness to reign in life through Jesus Christ our Lord!
He has already given us everything pertaining to life and godliness so that through intimate knowledge of God and these promises we can become partakers of His divine nature! (2 Peter 1:3-8)
