Does God Withdraw His Presence?

In the past, I have heard men say things like “God removes His presence to test our faith” or similar things and it is a complete lie.

Jesus said “I will never leave you or forsake you.”

David prophesied that He could not go anywhere; not even into the depths of Hell or the grave to escape God’s presence! (Psalm 139:8)

David also wrote about the more nearness of God in the “Valley of the Shadow of Death”. in Psalm 23

The point is that especially if we feel God is “distant”; we should absolutely know that He is never far from us! Maybe believing that God has removed his presence temporarily causes us to feel even more distant from God!

We don’t walk by feeling. We live by faith and not by sight. But, it is nice when we “feel” closer to God. David wrote “In your presence is fullness of joy and at your right hand are pleasures forever more!” God’s not against us enjoying His presence and feeling good. He created feelings. Feelings can be good! He just doesn’t want us to live based on our feelings but on faith!

Faith pleases God. Whoever comes to God must believe that He IS (Here) and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11)If we come to God when He doesn’t feel near and ask Him things like “Where are you God?”; we are already “pushing Him away” with our unbelief. Think about it….

We approach God according to His standard and not our own. We don’t approach the Throne to find mercy and grace based on feeling and in doubt that He is hear. The one who wavers in unbelief should not expect to receive anything from the Lord! (James 1) We approach him in faith that He IS here. He will never leave us. He Hears our prayers. He answers our prayers and responds to those who seek Him in faith.
