And Now for Something Completely Different

This morning, I finally realized that my coffee hasn’t been very hot lately. Have you ever realized some detail that you had neglected and it changed everything? It turns out, the Carafe temperature was somehow turned down even though I had originally turned it all the way up.

How long have I been unknowingly drinking lukewarm coffee? Immediately, I felt the Lord speaking through this.

I was already seeking the Lord about the New wine and new wineskins. Fresh Wine/Completely different wineskins. Old Garments/Completely unlike any previous garments!

Jesus isn’t some mild lukewarm drink. He is scalding hot like nothing ever before experienced. He is also refreshingly cold living waters if you are thirsty and dry!

I still don’t completely understand all that Jesus was conveying when he spoke about the New Wine being put into New Wineskins but, The Lord did reveal something that I had never seen before! Jesus used 2 different words that are both translated “New” when describing New Wine (neos) and New Wineskin (kainos).

According to the Strongs, and HELPS, neos/new is basically ~ “fresh, young, youthful”. This is always used when Jesus spoke of new wine. He was saying young, fresh wine. It’s not expired wine. It’s good to drink.

The word that Jesus always used to describe the New Wineskin is the very different word “kainos” which means “completely new, unlike anything else”.

“And now for something completely different”.

The Wine is fresh, new and youthful. It’s good promises that can be found in the Old Testament but, the wineskin required to hold it must be completely new; different from anything else. Almost like…a New Creation!

Exactly like a new creation because that’s what God did when you received His Spirit and were “born again!”

He made you a Completely different from anything else Wineskin, a completely New Creation! Paul described the “New Creation” in Ephesians 4 ~

23and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,24and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.”

Back to the same parable of the New Wineskin, in the previous verse Jesus mentioned a New Garment and Old Garment.

36And He was also telling them a parable: “No one tears a piece of cloth from a new garment and puts it on an old garment; otherwise he will both tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old”

Every time he described this New Garment, it uses “kainos”/ completely unlike anything else.

I believe Jesus’ point was the same. The old garment (Old Covenant relationship with God) cannot be fixed with even a piece of the completely new relationship of the completely new creation in God. It has to be thrown out/crucified with Christ and raised to completely new and never before available life in Christ! (Romans 6:4 uses the same root word for newness)

We do not have a new LAW just as they were not supposed to focus on the old LAW.

We have a new relationship with God that was never before available! God is joined to our spirit. (1 Cor.6:17)

God has always been about relationship with man and that was the point of his Covenants. The beauty of the New Covenant is that Jesus made us completely new forever in our spirit. Forever created in the likeness of God; in righteousness, holiness and truth.

Our part is to drink the fresh wine. Renew our mind in the truth of the Gospel of Jesus and don’t try to “patch” yourself up according to works. You are forever fixed in Christ. Forever blameless in the spirit, forgiven and free! “The one whom the son sets free is free indeed.” because “where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.”
