I was meditating on Love. True Agape Love as described by 1 Cor.13 ~ Paul wrote how speaking in heavenly languages of angels, possessing all the wisdom and knowledge of all mysteries, mountain moving faith, giving away everything to charity, laying down your life to be burned at the stake without Agape love profits NOTHING.
Without love there is no fruit. ZERO.
I remembered that Jesus spoke about abiding in Him (The True Vine) because we are branches and only branches that abide in Him can bear fruit. Then he went on to say~ “9“Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”
Abide in love, remain in love, love, love, love…without love NOTHING profits us!
Suddenly it occurred to me that Galatians 5:22 may actually say ~ “The fruit of the Spirit is LOVE. Period. It was one of the most random thoughts and it seemed like it could have been the Lord or complete nonsense.
But we know that there was no punctuation in the original text and it was all added in about the past 500 years, so it had potential! As soon as I could; I checked the Greek text at BibleHub.com. Removing the doctored punctuation, the Greek actually says ~ “The (singular) fruit (singular) of the Spirit (singular) is (singular) love
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (all also singular) against such (plural) things (plural) there is no law.
There is ONE fruit. Love is the fruit and the rest are “such things” that come from the one fruit of the Spirit, which is love.
I know, this is contradicting what we have been taught and even taught! Bear with me…
Consider how Paul describes love back in 1 Cor.13, “4Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,6does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You have read that before. So have I but, I never noticed that he says Love is patient and patience is #3 listed after love in Gal.5:23. Love is also kind and kindness is #4 after love. It’s not much of a stretch to find all of the other so-called “fruits of the Spirit” listed under the one true fruit of love.
In other-words; there is no love without patience. Forget trying to be patient! Simply be loving because love is patient. Same goes for kindness.
There are not 9 fruits of the Spirit because we can’t claim to be patient or kind if we are not loving. Love IS the one fruit of the Spirit and Love is all of the “such things” that he then described!
Love is joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, gentle, faithful and controls itself!
Remember out of “faith, hope and love; the greatest is love.”
Because Love hopes all things and believes (has faith for) all things.
God IS love.
God has one fruit and it is love. His fruit is always eternal because love never ends. Love is the greatest.
