The Resurrection of Israel ~Pt.1

This blogpost is meant to be speculative. Could it be that this is true? If you have not heard of the preterist/partial-preterist view of “End Times”; this will be a big stretch!

Historians like Josephus and Tacitus record that 70 AD and the events surrounding the desolation of Jerusalem were unprecedented! There were signs in the heavens, wonders, plagues and famines that Western Christianity has been largely uninformed of.

It is from the viewpoint that the destruction Jesus DID prophesy would come on THAT generation (within 40 years) did come; exactly as Jesus declared.

With that in mind; let’s consider the last chapter of Daniel and how he prophesied about “The Resurrection of the righteous and the wicked”.

Dan.12:1 ~“Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of YOUR people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time YOUR people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued.”

Look at the emphasis of Daniel’s entire writing from beginning to end. It’s always about the Old Covenant Jewish people and their Temple. It’s always about the nations surrounding and ruling Israel and the rebuilding/desolation of their Temple. This chapter continues in the same theme.

Michael (an Archangel?) is the guard of Israel and arises to protect them in the time of greatest distress EVER and every Jew written in the book will be rescued.

V. ~2“Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground (admat) will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.”

The resurrection is of those who sleep (have died) in the dust of the “admat”. This Hebrew word is only used 25 times and always refers to a specific LAND and not general ground or dirt. Over 20 of the times; it is directly translated “The Land of” Israel. All 18 times one of the other O.T. prophets (Isaiah, Ezekiel and Zechariah) used it; it ONLY refers specifically to “The Land of Israel”.

This resurrection seems to clearly follow the rest of Daniel’s book and refer to a resurrection of MANY (not all) of the dead in the Land of Israel.

3And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. 4But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the TIME OF THE END. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

This resurrection of “many” that slept in the dust of “The Land of Israel” happened at the “Time of the end” which is not the “end of the world”. Just because it has been framed that way; does not mean that is how it was prophesied!

The word translated “Of the end” is “qes” and was only used 22 times. Ezekiel prophesied with it 5 times and every time; he was declaring God’s judgement on the Land of Israel! Daniel used it 9 times in the same manner!

Consider Daniel’s first use of this word is from the mouth of Gabriel (another Archangel?)  in the middle of Chapter 8 ~

17So he came near where I stood. And when he came, I was frightened and fell on my face. But he said to me, “Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end.”

and Gabriel used it again to reveal the meaning ~

19He said, “Behold, I will make known to you what shall be at the latter end of the indignation, for it refers to the appointed time of the end. 20As for the ram that you saw with the two horns, these are the kings of Media and Persia. 21And the goat is the king of Greece…”

Every serious student and scholar of Eschatology has agreed that this vision was fulfilled a few hundred years before Jesus was born by Medo/Persia and Alexander the Great of Greece. Sadly, many of them somehow forget that the Old Covenant (Testament) is about Israel because they were the only people that had any access to relationship with God!

We cannot place these events in the future, over 2,500 years later and apply them to the entire world just because KJV (which was written for people who were barely literate) and many others have blindly followed!
