I believe there is a progression of Jesus’ power and authority detailed in the Gospel. The Word of God became a man in flesh. Still fully God and now also fully man but, in flesh like our sinful flesh but, without sin!
As the Lamb of God and the Lion of Judah, he fulfilled all the LAW and prophets had spoken about him ~
8Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Then he conquered death and the grave and ascended to the Father’s Throne “9For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name.
It sounds like the name, Jesus is not the name above every name. Jesus HAS the name above every name but, it was something he inherited and he did not inherit the name, Jesus.
“When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.” (Heb.1)
He has sat at the position of power and authority and already received his more excellent name!
“What is man, that you are mindful of him,
or the son of man, that you care for him?
7You made him for a little while lower than the angels;
you have crowned him with glory and honor,a
8 putting everything in subjection under his feet.”
Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. 9But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor!”
He laid down his glory and honor for a little while but NOW he has been crowned once again!
This must be what is happening in Revelation 5 when John saw the One on the Throne approached by the Lamb that was slain and had overcome!
7And He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. 8When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb..11Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders…
12saying with a loud voice,
|“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”|
The Lamb was worthy to receive/inherit his new name! Don’t be freaked out as if the Name of Jesus has changed but consider the words of Jesus himself ~
12‘He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name. 13‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
David prophesied of this moment over a thousand years earlier ~
Jesus is “The Word of God” and The Word, Jesus is exalted above all names!
He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.”
What is the name written on Him which no one KNOWS????
Is it “The Word of God”? or…
16And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
Maybe this epic vision of Jesus is not for the future but, is the Name that is now above every name! His Name has not literally changed. He is still Jesus (or Yeshua in Hebrew) but, it’s not about the literal name or pronunciation of Jesus. It’s about His authority, power and character.
but it wasn’t until after the Cross and Resurrection that He said ~ “All authority in heaven and on the earth has been given to Me.”
9… God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
