The Righteousness of God

Jesus spoke very seriously about the LAW ~
17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. (MAtt.5)

But, Jesus came (past tense) to fulfill the Law and prophets. We no longer teach people to obey the commandments of the LAW (like stoning rebellious children) because Jesus fulfilled them, taught them and He is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven! Our righteousness (In Christ) already exceeds the righteousness of the scribes Pharisees because we are found in Christ not having a righteousness of our own because we have become the righteousness of God (in our spirit) in Him (2 Cor.5:21)! He became wisdom, righteousness , sanctification and redemption to us! (1 Cor.1:31)

Romans 8:3,4 ~ ” what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” The righteousness of the law IS already fulfilled IN us (because Christ is in us) and does not have to be fulfilled BY us!

19Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

21But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference ~ Romans 3:19-22

We have received more than just righteousness (in the spirit) But God’s righteousness! (Remember 1 Cor.5:21?)

Rom.8:10 ~ And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Many times I wondered, Which spirit? Holy Spirit or my spirit. Some versions capitalize the “S” some places that other’s don’t. Also, in the original text they had no lower case letters, everything was capitalized. How did they know which “spirit” was being referenced hundreds of years later?

Finally the Lord showed me, It doesn’t matter which spirit! 17But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. ~ 1 Cor.6:17 Holy Spirit joined our spirit! We are one with the Lord in spirit.

Old Things have passed away. (in the spirit) ALL things have become new!

Now we simply “abide in the Vine” ~ 23And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (Eph.4:23,24)

Putting on the new man is not described as something we do but, something we understand. When the mind is renewed, the new man is put on. The new man is ALREADY created in righteousness and true holiness, we simply need to believe the “invisible robe of righteousness” has been granted for us to wear and “put it on”.

When we put on a shirt, we simply pick up what we already have and wear it. We don’t wrestle it to the ground or petition God with prayer and fasting to send his angels or Holy Spirit to dress us. Jesus created the “new man” in himself already and we became the new man when we were baptized into death with him (Rom.6 and Eph.1,2) We simple need to believe it and walk in Christ.

I think of it as “know who we are in Christ”. It’s a matter of recognizing our true identity.

1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. ~ Col.3

Christ IS our life. Our real life is hid with Christ (in the spirit) in God.

That’s why the LAW is not applicable to us. Trying to obey the Old Covenant is like severing ourselves from Christ according to Paul in Gal.5:4 because he describes in Gal.2:19-21 how we are crucified to the LAW in Christ and our life is now Christ’s!

It’s why the material things of the flesh (or outward works) are nothing if they are not in Christ. The New Creation is what matters. Not male, female, Jew, Greek, slave or free but Christ being all in all. I still don’t understand this “New Creation” and keep asking the Lord for revelation and wisdom but, am convinced there is so much more liberty in the Spirit than we are now experiencing and it’s God’s good pleasure to give it to us!
