Isaiah’s Revelation (Chap.11)

1Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse,
            And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

      2The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him,
            The spirit of wisdom and understanding,
            The spirit of counsel and strength,
            The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

Jesus was the Shoot, the branch, the True Vine that sprang up from the stem/root/stump of Jesse (son of David) and He is the one in whom we bear fruit. Apart from Him we can do nothing. (John 15)

The 7-fold Spirit of God from Rev.5 and Zech. 3 is described which I’m not going to get into here because almost everyone agrees it is the fullness of the anointing of Holy Spirit. I don’t believe anyone before Jesus had the fullness of the Spirit (but I could be wrong) but, every born-again believer since has ~ 17But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. (1 Cor.6:17)

John 3:34“For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure.” ~ God sent Jesus but has since sent Holy Spirit to us. Holy Spirit speaks the words of God to us and is the same Spirit and power that Jesus had!

However, being one spirit with God and being anointed by God are 2 different things. Every born-again believer has God in their spirit (God in us and us in God) but not, necessarily baptized, anointed in the spirit.

Moving on…

11:3 ~ ” 3And He will delight in the fear of the LORD,
            And He will not judge by what His eyes see,
            Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;

It seems that out of all the 7-fold anointing, Jesus walked in a double portion of reverential awe or “Fear of the Lord” and that seems like a good place for us to be too.

Jesus referenced how He judges in John 8:15You judge according to the flesh…7:24“Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”because “The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” ~ 1 Sam.6:17

11:4A ~ “4but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;

Jesus said about this ~

3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.4“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.5“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” and he demonstrated it by healing lame, blind beggars. Feeding the hungry with physical food and “heavenly food”. He raised up Apostles of God from lowly fishermen and a despised tax-collector and ate with prostitutes and known sinners. Meanwhile…

and he shall strike the land with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked. ~ 11:4B

We saw earlier that Assyria/ Babylon was God’s “rod of his anger” and this probably refers to that again. The “breath of his lips” could mean Holy Spirit because breath/spirit/wind are all of the same word in Hebrew, which is “ruach”. God continually demonstrated how we don’t rely on human strength or ability but by His Spirit. I believe Rev.11 has valuable insight into this symbolism when it describes the “2 Witnesses”~

4These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. 5And if anyone would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes…”

We cannot interpret this through an Old Covenant lens. Jesus made it clear that consuming people with fire from Heaven is not even of Holy Spirit in Luke 9 ~

53But they did not receive Him, because He was traveling toward Jerusalem.54When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” 55But He turned and rebuked them, [and said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; 56for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”

The next few verses contain a lot of symbolism that I don’t fully understand but, 11:8 seems clear ~

8The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra,
            And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.”

We have authority and power over the serpents and they cannot harm us! The one who is born of God is protected and the evil one cannot touch them! Our spirit is completely untouchable and off limits to the enemy in every way because our spirit was born of God “whatever is born of spirit is spirit” and our spirit overcomes the world automatically because it’s our spirit that is joined to Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm! (Eph.1:3) I believe this verse is clearly describing a current spiritual principle in the Kingdom. The next verse continues and confirms this…

” 9They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain,”

We are not waiting for a literal Golden City to descend from Heaven to literal Mt.Zion in Old Covenant Jerusalem in the future! BORING!

Seriously, have you ever considered where the billions of believers throughout history would sit if we were all reigning with Jesus on Mt. Zion some day?

I’m only going to present a “nibble” of this from Hebrews 12 ~18For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched”

Hebrews is ALL about the Old Covenant fading out, with ALL of the physical, literal rituals and requirements and the SUBSTANCE, the reality of the spiritual promises that are ours in the New Covenant!

Heb.12:22But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem…”

We are already ON the Holy Mount Zion (in the spirit), New Jerusalem from above! According to Gal.4:26, we have been born of New Jerusalem, she is our mother. Gal.4:21-31 explains very clearly why the O.T. prophecies toward Mt Zion and Jerusalem are already ours to receive because it’s simply describing spiritual promises of the New Covenant that must be interpreted by Holy Spirit and not our natural mind! AMEN!

As long as we Abide in Christ, we are in the shelter of the Most High (Psalm 91:1-2). That’s like staying in the New Jerusalem on Mt.Zion where NOTHING can ever harm us! Hallelujah!

11:9b ~ “For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
            As the waters cover the sea.”

Every knee WILL bow and every tongue WILL swear allegiance to Jesus as Lord! The Kingdom of God is currently Mt Zion that is growing until it fills the entire earth!

10Then in that day
            The nations will resort to the root of Jesse,
            Who will stand as a signal for the peoples;
            And His resting place will be glorious.

This has been going on for about 2,000 years. The gentiles have been resorting to Jesus and he stands (within believers) as a sign for all people. We are his resting place (in the spirit) and he is sanctifying our minds, emotions, will and even heart to manifest his glory to the world! (Col.3:3,4)

The next 4 verses describe God restoring scattered Israel and Old Covenant thinking considers “Israel according to the flesh” but New Covenant reality is not those who are “children of Abraham” by flesh and blood (which profits nothing!) because no flesh will boast before the Lord! NO. Not all Israel is Israel. Circumcision of the flesh, born of flesh does not matter but circumcision of the heart by Holy Spirit matters! God has chosen us to be born of HIM not by will of man, or natural blood but born of God! Now, we who believe are Israel, sons and daughters of Abraham (so to speak). These verses are ultimately describing New Covenant children of God being brought into the fold from the whole world (which has been happening for 2,000 years), now that’s Aliyah!

11Then it will happen on that day that the Lord
            Will again recover the second time with His hand
            The remnant of His people, who will remain,
            From Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath,
            And from the islands of the sea.

      12And He will lift up a standard for the nations
            And assemble the banished ones of Israel,
            And will gather the dispersed of Judah
            From the four corners of the earth.

      13Then the jealousy of Ephraim will depart,
            And those who harass Judah will be cut off;
            Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,
            And Judah will not harass Ephraim.

      14They will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west;
            Together they will plunder the sons of the east;
            They will possess Edom and Moab,
            And the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.

Prophetic people know how God speaks symbolically. We can’t allow generations of literalist, Theologians (who actually don’t take the Bible literally either) cause us to interpret God’s truth’s carnally. The spiritual person discerns spiritual things by comparing them with spiritual realities by Holy Spirit. But, the soulish man (yes, that’s what 1 Cor.2:14 literally says) cannot discern spiritual things.

I need to get off that horse now. I apologize if I was too strong or even critical. But, there seems to be a weird almost worship of natural Jewish Israel that in my opinion is grounded in Old Covenant thinking of current New Covenant reality. We are Israel. We did not replace the Jews. The time of the (natural) Jew was fulfilled in Jesus and now the time of the Christ in us, reveals that God desires every person of every nationality to be a “Jew”. Not to crowd the land of Israel with all of the world’s inhabitants. Seriously, remember how small that area is?

But, for us all to worship God wherever we are, all the time; in spirit and in truth. Jesus said the time is here, let’s not go backwards just because some of mainstream Christianity has…

15And the LORD will utterly destroy
            The tongue of the Sea of Egypt;
            And He will wave His hand over the River
            With His scorching wind;
            And He will strike it into seven streams
            And make men walk over dry-shod.

We saw in a previous chapter that Assyria/Babylon was referred to as “the Euphrates River” so “Egypt” of slavery was completely dried up forever. “It’s for freedom we’ve been set free!” (Gal.5:1) Slavery and fear no longer have a tongue (voice?) in our life.

This sounds like an allusion to Moses (now Jesus) leading God’s children out of bondage to sin and Holy Spirit (His scorching wind) drying it for us to walk over. Remember Paul said that crossing the Red Sea was symbolic of baptism into Christ. Not merely immersion in water but Holy Spirit baptism! Because the 7 streams must be the 7-fold Holy Spirit who is the fountain of salvation (continued in this same prophecy in chapter 12)

 16And there will be a highway from Assyria
            For the remnant of His people who will be left,
            Just as there was for Israel
            In the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.

The highway from Assyria/Babylon is Jesus. He is the WAY. Jesus is the Path, the Highway of Holiness. We follow the Spirit and walk in the way. The Greek word “way” in John 14:6 is the same word John the Baptist used when he quoted Isaiah; prophesying “A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”

Before Jesus came, the way was not clear, it was veiled. Now we see clearly with unveiled faces that Jesus is the Highway of Holiness. I love how Dan Mohler says about John 14:6 ~ “Jesus is the WAY, LIFE REALLY (truth) is”.(Way, truth and life)

I believe it is important to remember that the next chapter is still part of this same prophecy. Chapter’s 11 and 12 should flow seamlessly in our minds. But, that will have to wait until tomorrow…
