First and Last!

Jesus is the Apha and Omega, the beginning and the end! The First was only a shadow of the Last but, Jesus was and is! The reality now has superseded the former Covenant of types and shadows…the fulfillment is here and it’s Christ in us!

Jesus came at the completion of the Ages. The Old Ages were wrapped up in OT analogies and prophecies pointing to the inheritance that Jesus has already brought to the world! Which Age will we choose?

The Books of Hebrews and Revelation are transition books declaring in symbolism the unimaginable potential that God was in the process of releasing to his children as the old age came to a close.

9But, as it is written,“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—

10these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God….12 that we might understand the things freely given us by God.” ~ 1 Cor.2:9,10,12b

It’s these things that have already been prepared and already given that we seek to perceive!

HEBREWS~

When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high4having become so much better than the messengers, as he did inherit a more excellent name than they.”

In the N.C. we have the name of Jesus which He inherited. This is the name/nature that contains all God’s power and authority above all of Satan and his demons in this age!

Chapter 2 ~1For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard… 3how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord...For not to messengers did He subject the world that is coming, of which we are speaking,

The salvation spoken of by Jesus is and always will be the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and it is the “world that is coming” not the world that will come! This present tense is used to describe God’s promises that we enter into by faith throughout Hebrews and Revelation!

This is all written to believers almost 2,000 years ago! He was exhorting believers not to neglect the promised salvation of the Kingdom; not merely salvation as being born-again. This is the theme throughout Hebrews and Revelation because every book in the Bible was written to Christians and contains warnings of the judgement that was about to befall that generation as the Kingdom of God increased in the world!

Chapter 3 ~ 3For He (Jesus) has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. 4For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God… 6 Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end (completion).”

Just as Jesus always described the Kingdom in different parables; the author of Hebrews compares Moses/O.C as building a house/temple with Jesus/Gospel building a completely new house/temple which we are in the spirit!

7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,“Today, if you hear his voice,8do not harden your hearts...9where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years.
10Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ 11As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’”…

Because of Jesus being worthy and building the better house the Holy Spirit encouraged them not to harden their hearts but hear his voice (not simply obey the Bible, which they did not have) and avoid God’s wrath (which was coming to that generation) hence; enter God’s rest.

Just like Moses/LAW delivered God’s children from slavery/sin in Egypt to worship God in the wilderness and enter the Promised Land/Rest in faith with thanksgiving; they were encouraged too! However, Moses/LAW was unable to enter just as Jesus only saw the inheritance but could not receive until he died on the Mountain!

12Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God…16For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? 17And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

Being born-again does not guarantee automatically entering God’s rest. Being brought out of slavery in Egypt is like being brought into a dry place where we have to be dependent of being nourished by God alone; who is the Living Water and the Bread from Heaven! We continue to feed and drink from Jesus Word’s by the Spirit and find rest for our souls by believing in His finished work; which is the removal of the Yoke of the LAW upon us!

We don’t have over 600 commandments (O.T. Scriptures) or over 1,000 commandments (N.T.Scriptures) but 1 commandment that sums them all up…LOVE is complete fulfillment of the LAW! Even that is not something we do without receiving because we must first perceive God’s unfailing love for us to not fail in loving Him and others and ourselves!

The First Commandment was Love and the Last commandment is love…everything in between is nothing without love.

We enter the Rest of God by receiving his love for us and becoming his love.
