The Kingdom of God was prophesied throughout the Old Testament, just as Messiah Jesus, who fulfilled many prophecies that had been concealed within shadowy symbolism. One of my favorite O.T.prophets was Daniel. Consider Daniel’s piece of the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Daniel 2 related Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of a tall statue with a head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of bronze and legs of iron with feet mixed of iron and clay. Daniel declared that these represented 4 kingdoms from top to bottom and that Babylon was the golden kingdom “head”.
Almost every serious Bible scholar and student understands that the next silver Kingdom was Mede-Persia and the bronze represented Greece. The 4th Kingdom was the most interesting to Daniel and is almost universally recognized as Rome, whose metal was iron. The only dispute is about the 10 “toes” and the timing of the statue’s destruction. For the sake of brevity; here is a tiny part of what Daniel saw ~
34“You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and crushed them…”
The Stone that was cut without hands struck the feet, where the 10 “toes” were.
My point is to explore the concept that the Stone (clearly Jesus) has already struck the statue and the Kingdom of God will continue to increase without end! ~Selah
35“Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were crushed all at the same time and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.”
I think we need to consider the idea that a stone doesn’t become a “Mountain that fills the whole earth overnight.” Before Jesus had even introduced the New Covenant, He said “16The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it.”
Jesus, the Cornerstone has given us the Kingdom and we have come to Mt. Zion but, His Kingdom has been increasing for almost 2,000 years and will continue to gradually increase!
I want to highlight the last sentence of Daniel 2:35 ~ “But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.”
Jesus and the Scriptures described the Kingdom in many different analogies like a Wedding, a Tree, a Great Feast, and a Vineyard. But, let’s remember that God is always describing relationship with Him because it’s all about God and us being with him! The Stone, Jesus has given us the Kingdom! The Mountain Kingdom is life in the Holy Spirit because it’s within us! The Kingdom of God is…righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit!
Consider the warning that Jesus gave the generation of unbelieving Jews and Pharisees immediately before they killed their own King! Jesus described the Kingdom like a Vineyard and them as unfaithful servants who killed the prophets and even the Master’s own Son!
40“Therefore when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?” 41They said to Him, “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, and will rent out the vineyard to other vine-growers who will pay him the proceeds at the proper seasons.” ~ Matt.21
Jesus just declared that when the owner “comes”, He would take the Kingdom from them and give it to others (Jew and Gentile who believe!) He continues…
42Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:“‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?
The Stone has become the Cornerstone of God’s house in the spirit, not a literal house built with human hands! We cannot see ourselves being built as living stones because there is no visible structure to God’s Kingdom. Jesus’ Kingdom is in this world but, it is not of this world. God’s Kingdom is based on believing; not seeing.
Because the Jews rejected the Stone ~
43Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. 44And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”
Th Stone has crushed those old kingdoms of man. The Pharisees knew this parable was directed at them as we see in the following verse ~
45When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them.” But for some reason much of modern day Christianity talks of a day when “Jesus will become King” and “His Kingdom will be established”.
Yes, Jesus will become King manifested over all just as His Kingdom is increasing and will fill the earth but, the Mountain/Kingdom is here and it’s us!
22But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem…”
In the spirit we are his house, a branch on the True Vine, the City of God which is the Heavenly Jerusalem or Mount Zion. If we can believe that we are seated with Christ in Heavenly places; why shouldn’t we believe that we are in the City of God in the spirit?
Paul contrasted the Old Covenant way with the current New Covenant like Mt. Sinai/Hagar/physical Jerusalem/Law with Zion/Sarah/Jerusalem from above/Gospel and said ~
Everyone who has been born-again (literally translated “born from above”) is a child of New Jerusalem! He’s not talking about being born by a literal city but being born into God’s New Covenant! The Kingdom of God is His Covenant to us because all of God’s promises are true in Christ!
If we are in Christ; we are in the King. In Christ is in the Covenant. In Christ is in the Kingdom. In Christ is in the Vine. In Christ is in love.
Back to Daniel 2 and when the Rock landed~ 44“In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever…”
God’s Kingdom has been set up but that word means “Establish, appoint, raise up, make stand…” and it doesn’t have anything to do with completion. When the foundation was laid by Apostles and prophets on the Cornerstone; the House/Mountain was just getting started! The Living Stones have been continually added to the Mountain/house for almost 2,000 years!
Daniel described the same prophecy based on a slightly different aspect of 4 beasts in Daniel 7 ~
13“I continued to observe the night vision—and look!—someone like the Son of Man was coming, accompanied by heavenly clouds. He approached the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. 14To him dominion was bestowed, along with glory and a kingdom, so that all peoples, nations, and languages are to serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion—it will never pass away—and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”
Jesus has already received the Kingdom in the spirit and conferred it to us but, we do not yet see everything under his authority! Maybe we need to walk less by sight and more by faith! Some of Jesus’ last words to the faithful disciples in Matthew 28 confirm this ~
18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Some authority? NO. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus by the Father just like Daniel described in 7:14 above! The Greek tense “has been given” is AIP (Aorist Indicative Passive) which indicates that it is an accomplished fact and the result of the action continues into the future…just like a Rock that became a Mountain and continues to increase until it fills the entire earth!
6“But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.” ~ Psalm 2
It’s time to recognize that King Jesus is in us and His reign in increasing through us into all of the earth!
