The way that seems right to a man is the way of reaction. Humanity apart from the direction of Christ spends it’s entire life reacting to “what’s wrong” with life’s situations. God’s Way (In Christ) is higher and better than our way and is the True Way of Life!
When we follow Holy Spirit in relationship, our walk is not based on a written code but the intent of the Holy Scriptures. All of O.T. Scripture prophesied towards our time when God would co-habit with us in intimacy like marriage. Holy Spirit did not inspire those men to prophesy a day that all of humanity would worship a book! The truly sacred Book that we call “The Bible” is an amazing privilege and blessing but, it is not the “3rd Person” of the Trinity. The Bible itself only and always pointed to Jesus and the day (that is now!) that Holy Spirit would be our Guide!
“When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all Truth!” ~ John 16:13
The TRUTH is not merely fact. The Truth is God’s reality which is a superior reality to the FACTS of the inferior reality. (As Bill Johnson puts it in ~ “When Heaven Invades Earth”)
What you see is NOT what you get. What you believe is what you get.
Facts get in the way but intimately knowing the Truth sets us free! If it doesn’t liberate you; it’s not Truth. There are currently things in my life that are not of God and not TRUTH. It may be the current state and it may be fact but, it’s from the inferior reality. We simply have the amazing opportunity of growing in the Way of the Lord! It brings God great joy that his children walk in truth!
“4Make me know Your ways, O LORD;
Teach me Your paths. 5Lead me in Your truth and teach me,” ~ Psalm 25
Even David (the man after God’s own heart) knew in the Old Covenant that the Lord was his personal guide and David lived a life “above the Law!” (Remember him eating the sacred shewbread despite the Law without consequence?) God was pleased with his faith.
9He leads the humble in justice,
And He teaches the humble His way.
10All the paths of the LORD are lovingkindness and truth
To those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.” ~ Psalm 25
God’s Way is the way of mercy, love and truth to the humble who are intimately acquainted with the Lord and His Covenant relationship with us! Everything from God is always and only good and true in our lives! If it’s not good; it’s not TRUTH. It may be a fact but, it needs to be brought into subjection under Jesus’ feet by “bowing” at the nature of Jesus as Lord because Jesus’ WAY is the Way our Life Truly is! He leads us forward in His Way which is in Victorious triumph of the Gospel and we are like a perfume of Who God really is to the world!“
Keep looking at the WAY LIFE TRULY is! Jesus is the TRUE WAY of LIFE! (John 14:6)
We have the amazing opportunity of shaping our own lives by choosing to ignore the inferior reality (in spite of any and all opposing circumstances) and choosing to live by faith! The righteous live and walk by faith not by sight or circumstances! This is how we “look to Jesus” and we behold the glory of God with unveiled faces! We see his Name (Who God truly is) when his nature is honored and glorified despite our trials because we rejoice in the confident hope of His declared victory over our enemies! We overcome evil with good instead of being overcome by evil!
“1Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity,
And I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.
2Examine me, O LORD, and try me;
Test my mind and my heart.
3For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, And I have walked in Your truth!”
God’s WAY is the way of faith and love. Our faith is not based on an idea about Him, it’s based on Who He truly is. Faith is based on TRUTH. Faith is not based on fact because facts are of the inferior reality and must be brought into subjection of the Truth which is Jesus. Just as Jesus walked by faith (Habakkuk 2:4) we walk in the truth by faith. Without faith is is impossible to please God!
Throughout Old and New Testament Scripture there is a clear link between The Truth and Love. John’s account of Jesus life and Letters reference the words “love” and “truth” more than any of the other writers combined! John had a profound understanding of one thing more than the others and that is God’s love for him! Because the most important truth of the Gospel is God’s love for mankind! (John 3:16) Love is the reason God did what He did!
It would be easy to be like a Pharisee and use God’s Words to condemn or criticize other people’s short-comings but Jesus declared and demonstrated that IS NOT HIS WAY.
That’s the way of man which seems right but ends in death.
The Way of the Lord is that even if we had all power, gifts, insight, knowledge and self-sacrifice but did not abide in love; it would not profit us anything! Perhaps that’s why much of the church (in general) has a lot of hype but little fruit.
We need to return to the purity of love. The truth of love overcoming all evil with good. Our purpose is not to correct the wrongs of the world with facts but we are called to “Abide in God.” “Whoever abides in Jesus will bear much fruit”…”Now abide in my love.”
We can speak facts and still be wrong because we need to do more than speak facts but “Speak the truth in love!” The Way of Truth is not in conflict whatsoever with the Way of Love because they are one and the same!
“And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we know the true One, and are in union with the true One–that is, we are in union with His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and the Life of the Ages.” 1 John 5:20 WEY
Knowing we are of God and joined in union with God is the truth! This is relationally knowing God, which Jesus said is “eternal life” (the Life of the Ages)
7Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9By this the love of God was manifested in us…” ~ 1 John 4
We abide in the Life of the Ages by abiding in love because God is the truth and the truth is that God is love. The Truth of God and Love of God are both described by God as “eternal life”…because the truth is that being loved by God is now eternal life!
That’s relationally knowing the truth and that is truth that sets us free!
