Who Overcomes the World?

Your faith did not overcome the world.

“For everyone having been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory having overcome the world: our faith.” 1 John 5:4

Jesus said ~ “I have overcome the world.”
We have not overcome the world…per se. Jesus overcame the world AS “The faith of us”.

Jesus IS our faith!

Consider ~ Jesus has become 1. Our righteousness 2. Our wisdom 3.Our Holiness 4. Our Redemption (1 Cor.1:30)

He is our Truth (John 14:6) He is our Way and our life.

He is our peace (Judges 6:24)

He is the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness! (Rom.5:17)

Christ is All and will be in all! (Col.3:11)

“A man can have nothing unless it comes from above (from God)” John 3:27. Jesus said ~ “Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15) “abide in me and you will bear fruit!” Why? Because it is God working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do his will! (Phil.2:13)

We can’t even believe on our own!  God had to give each person a tiny measure of faith! (Rom.12:3)

Jesus is the faith of us because there is one faith! (Eph.4:5)
Now reconsider 1 John 5:4 ~ “For everyone having been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory having overcome the world: our faith.”

He is the faith that has overcome the world because the word used for “has overcome” is the APA tense which means it’s already completely accomplished! Your faith has not yet overcome the world unless Jesus IS your faith!

But, WITH Jesus AS your faith ~ “Now who is the one overcoming the world, except the one believing that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:5

This overcoming was used as a present tense verb. Very different from the previous verse which used it as a verb in which the action was already accomplished. Our faith (Jesus) HAS overcome the world. NOW, who is presently overcoming the world (by Jesus as our faith?)
Whoever believes in Jesus as the Son of God.

Remember the Spiritual Armor in Ephesians 6 ? It’s simply an aspect of who Christ is applied to us. Consider ~

The Belt of Truth – We already know that Jesus is the Truth.

The Breastplate of Righteousness – 1 Cor.1:30

The Shield of faith? Let’s go way back to when God declared the Gospel to Abraham (Gal.3:8) in Genesis 15:1.

”    1After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying,
            “Do not fear, Abram,
            I am a shield to you;
Your reward shall be very great.”

Jesus is the Word of the Lord (John 1:1) and He declared that He was Abram’s shield. How was Abraham declared righteous? How did Abraham walk?

By faith.

David had this revelation too and declared it more than once in the Psalms. Psalm 3:3 ~

3But You, O LORD, are a shield about me,
My glory, and the One who lifts my head.

We aren’t trying to strap on some invisible armor whenever their are spiritual problems. We simply abide in Christ and in Him, we are already complete. (Col.2:10) In Christ, we have everything that we need pertaining to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3) Because Christ is the power and wisdom of God…ALL of God’s power and wisdom working in those who believe!

Our Faith HAS overcome the world completely, forever. Not your believing and not my believing but Jesus’ believing. He has become our faith because He authored it and finished it. The Book of faith is written. It’s Complete and nothing can be added to it. The story has been more than told, it has been fulfilled…He’s simply waiting for us all to rest in faith in his Accomplished victory.

That’s how we currently overcome the world…by believing that He has completed it.
