The American Church stands at a “Crossroads”. The path on the left follows the wisdom of the world and man. The Way on the right is the path of Godly Wisdom. It’s time to completely abandon the foolishness of the world (as God called it in 1 Cor.1:20) and seek in faith the wisdom of God.
The truth is that Jesus is God’s Wisdom and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Wisdom. Christ in us already contains all of God’s wisdom and insight but both Paul and James exhorted prayer for wisdom. Because we already have been given every spiritual blessing, since we are joined to Christ forever in God.
I think of it like The Father being the power source, The Holy Spirit every outlet and Christ being the electric chord. We are already plugged in because of Jesus, the Vine! However, God won’t flip the light switch. God has given us the house, the light and every thing that we need pertaining to life and Godliness but, relationship with God accesses these great and precious promises! 2 Peter 1:3,4
Practically, we have 3 things to do to “flip the switch”!
We need to believe. We need to ask. After that, we will be equipped to proclaim God’s wisdom.
James 1 said ~ If anyone needs wisdom, let him ask! and God will give it generously! But when you ask, you must believe with no doubt in your heart because whoever asks with any doubt should not expect to receive anything from the Lord! (James 1:5-7 paraphrased)
We need Spiritual wisdom. Our President-elect needs wisdom. This nation needs wisdom.
Right now there is a lot of power revolving around the wisdom of man in politics, business and even in the church. But according to the Holy Spirit via Paul, the “foolishness of the Cross” has trumped them all!
“25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” ~ 1 Cor.1:25
Paul continued to write in the following verses that not many of them were “wise, rich or noble” when the were called. God chose things that seemed foolish to the world to triumph over the world’s ways! This was so that only God would get the glory. (v.26-28)
I am reminded of Isaiah 55 which says that God’s ways and thoughts are higher than our ways and thoughts like the Heavens are above the earth. Because in the Old Covenant, they didn’t have “The Mind of Christ” like we do! They didn’t have Christ in them, the hope of glory!
“12But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God.” ~ 1 Cor.2:12
Again, it just goes back to perceiving what God has already given us.
WHAT IS WISDOM REALLY LIKE?
In the Old Covenant, Solomon declared that wisdom built her house with her 7 pillars. Scholars agree that these “7 pillars” were articulated by “The New Testament Solomon” (as James has been called) in James 3.
Firstly, we need to always remember the crucial element to wisdom that the world has ignored. Wisdom is humble.
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” James 3:13
We have not seen much humility demonstrated in the recent Presidential race…By either side. We have seen a lot of what James indicated was the exact opposite of God’s wisdom!
“14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth. 15This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. 16For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.” ~ James 3:14-16
We have seen a lot of jealousy and selfish ambition. That is not God’s wisdom.
But hey, That’s the way the world works, right?
Yes it is. But, it’s not the way God operates and it’s not the way we will advance His Kingdom. We need to pray into God’s kind of wisdom for ourselves and for Mr. Donald Trump. The morning of the election, I wrote about this very thing because I believed that the Lord had shown me Mr. Trump would win and he is prepping us according to His Wisdom. (See previous blog post for being the wisdom to be peacemakers)
“17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”
I have been seeking the Lord about His Wisdom for quite a while. Specifically about how wisdom and love compliment each other. I believe that it’s easy to mistakenly think of love as “soft and wishy-washy” but too consider wisdom “intelligent and calculated.. Maybe, even cold.” The truth is that God’s wisdom and love may be one and the same.
Consider that love is also merciful. Love is gentle, pure and reasonable. Love is all of these things!
For me, just the revelation that God’s wisdom is full of mercy is enough “food for thought” to chew on for months. Actually, I have been and it hasn’t gotten stale. It’s like the tastiest jerky that I ever gnawed on.
What if we focused on praying for the mercy and peace-making wisdom of God? I bet that would be a great way to restore unity in our seriously divided country.
Why isn’t there more talk about God’s wisdom in the American church?
I believe the Church is ready to learn about God’s wisdom. It may not look like we expect it too. I believe it could be really easy and even restful, if we cooperate with God and pray/manifest his wisdom…Or it could be a little rockier, if we traveled down the path of worldly wisdom.
